Saint Jo City Council amends city codes

The Saint Jo City Council conducted a 20-minute executive session during its Sept. 13 meeting for legal advice concerning proposed ordinance changes.
City Secretary Sherri Davis said the group met with the city attorney to discuss issues involving stipulations from Senate Bill 1004, which outlines how municipalities deal with telecommunications companies when they want to place structures in the public right-of-way.

If a city does not have policies in place the company can place structures such as towers in public ROW with no city oversight or franchise agreements.
Back in open session the council amended its ordinances for building regulations and ROW management, along with a design manual for installation of telecommunications networks, and poles and a master fee schedule.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
