Couple seriously injured in mid-week wreck

Bowie ambulance personnel removed two people from their vehicle after it was involved in a two-vehicle wreck on Wednesday evening. Police Officer Josh Wolfe said the wreck occurred at 4:35 p.m. at the intersection of Houston Street and State Highway 59. Marvin Thomas was driving a passenger vehicle north on Hwy. 59 when he collided with a Dodge Ram driven by David DeArman, Bowie. Wolfe said the truck was on Houston preparing to turn onto the highway, while a white SUV was preparing to turn east at Houston. Dearman said he did not see Thomas who was on the other side of the SUV and they collided. Thomas and his passenger, Beulah Faye Leis, were transported to a Wichita Falls hospital where they were being treated for serious injuries. (Photo by Barbara Green)

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
