Councilors, mayor take oath of office in Bowie

The Bowie City Council got some new faces Thursday night as newly elected members took the oath of office.
Outgoing Mayor Scott Davis administered the oath to new Mayor Gaylynn Burris.
He also read the oath for returning Councilor Wayne Bell, and newly elected Councilors Machelle Mills and Arlene Bishop. Bell was elected mayor pro tem.
Both Davis and outgoing Councilor Chuck Malone were presented with Bowie knife plaques in appreciation for their service.
A property lease agreement with Comcell, Inc. for tower site to be located on city-owned near the Silver Lakes Ranch area was approved. The site will provide broadband service to the area and be leased to the company.
There was some discussion about Comcell bringing fiberoptic service into the city; however, no action was taken. Burris indicated they may form a committee to explore options.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
