Jackrabbits rebound with big win against City View 67-55

Published

on

Following a loss on the road, the Bowie Jackrabbits made sure there would be no set back as they hosted City View on Tuesday.
The Jackrabbits won 67-55 against an athletic Mustangs team, whose main weakness, a lack of size, fed right into Bowie’s strength. Also on the minds of the team was fellow student Austin Cox, with the proceeds from Tuesday night’s game going to his family as Cox fights for his life from cancer.
Wanting to make up for the previous game’s lackluster start, the Jackrabbits came out and were up 6-0 a minute and half into the game. That early lead proved to be vital as the teams went back and forth at each other the rest of the quarter.
City View used its athleticism to drive to the basket and shoot quick three-pointers while Bowie played inside out as big post Daniel Mosley dominated early and often. The Jackrabbit led 17-14 heading into the second quarter.
The Mustangs tied the score up 19-19 early in the second quarter. Bowie was able to distance itself, going on an 11-0 run in the next four minutes to establish a double digit lead 30-19 with less than two minutes to go. City View closed the lead down to 32-25 at halftime.
The game stayed competitive, but the Mustangs could not make much headway into the Jackrabbits lead as Bowie led 38-32 with less than three minutes to go. From there, the Jackrabbits went on a 10-2 run to end the quarter and give themselves the biggest lead of the game 48-34 heading into the fourth quarter.
Bowie made sure to squash any possibility of a comeback from the Mustangs. The first three minutes saw the Jackrabbits go up by almost 20 points, 57-38. Bowie kept up that energy even with City View scoring at a blistering pace to get back into the game.
Even with the Mustangs drawing closer, the Jackrabbits lead was too much as the time ran down and Bowie won 67-55.
