Commissioners hear first budget requests

Published

on

Montague County Commissioners are moving forward with revisions to the county’s subdivision regulations approving the impact assessment and setting a public hearing date.
The court met in called session on Friday after moving its regular Monday meeting due to the holiday.
Commissioners have been working on revisions to the subdivision regulations for several months. They also have added a manufactured home rental community regulation.
Prior to conducting the required public hearing, the court must conduct an impact assessment based on the revised regulations. That information, along with the revised rules will be presented in a public hearing which has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on July 8.
The court heard the first presentation regarding budget requests Friday, but no action was taken. These are proposals submitted by the various officeholders and department heads. The primary common thread was a proposed five percent salary increase for employees. Commissioners moved to include that and get the figures on that costs.
Final certified property values will not be available until the end of July, which will determine the amounts of projected tax revenue the county may receive and possible tax rates.
Budget proposals were presented by the technology director, justice of the peace one and two, tax assessor, emergency management coordinator, all the precincts, sheriff’s office, county jail and county court. Read the full story in the mid-week Bowie News.

After more than a year of turmoil and upheaval it appears the Amon Carter Lake Water Supply Corporation is back on its feet with a slate of new board members and plans to review by-laws and operations.
Last August all the board members resigned in the wake of a lawsuit by a resident who could not obtain water for a small housing development despite being in the district. The property owner also accused the board of not following open meetings or open records laws, or its own by-laws.
After the board resigned a receivership was requested from the court and was named in December 2025. The receiver or temporary manager was Nocona attorney Zach Renfro, who was directed by the court to seek out possible directors to rehabilitate the association and assure it meets the obligation of continuing to provide water to more than 300 members.
The corporation board conducted its first general membership meeting on March 27 where a state of the corporation was given and new directors

named. They are Kevin McShan, president; Josh Swint, vice president; Carla Swofford, secretary; Wesley Kelly, treasurer; Zach Gunter, Rob Hankins and Chase Thomas, all directors.
