Head-on crash kills 3; 1 hospitalized
A head-on collision late Saturday night one mile north of Bowie, took the lives of three people and seriously injured one other.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the two-vehicle crash that occurred at 11 p.m. on U.S. Highway 81, one mile north of Bowie near Indian Hills Road on Aug. 3.
According to the DPS, Andrew Joseph Gardener, 29, Sunset, was driving a 2015 Chevy Cruz northbound on U.S. 81. His passenger was Bobbi Jeanenne Johnson, 29, Graham.
The report states Gardener crossed the center stripe while approaching a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder SUV, driven by Kay Deweall, and struck it head-on.
Deweall was transported to John Peter Smith hospital with serious injuries. Her passenger, James Don Dewveall, 72, Azle, was killed in the crash. The three deceased persons were pronounced dead on scene by the justice of the peace. All were wearing seatbelts.
A BOIL WATER NOTICE remains in effect for City of Bowie, TX water customers along Highway 81 from Parker Road to Old Bowie Lake. Affected customers should use bottled or boiled water for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. Results of water testing should be available shortly after noon today. If the testing is good, the BOIL WATER NOTICE may be lifted shortly thereafter
A boil water order was implemented Monday afternoon for the area served at U.S. Highway 81 from Parker Drive to Old Bowie Lake as water line repairs were made. The order remains in place today. If you are affected by this order and need bottled water call 940-977-4941.
