Runners from Saint Jo and Forestburg competed against mostly bigger schools at the Assault at Eagle Summit in Decatur on Saturday.
The Panther boy’s team finished 13th overall. Collin Thomas was the team’s top runner. The two-time state qualifier finished 28th with a time of 19:02.
The top five runners from Saint Jo also included Devin Stewart (61), Jayden Curry (80), Joshua Vogel (85) and Brice Durham (94).
On the girls side Aubrey Morman from finished 61st with a time of 15:34.
Panthers coach Lyndon Cook thought it was a good test for his team overall.
“The course at Decatur is one of the most challenging in the area with the hills and terrain posing significant adversity even if the weather was nice like it was Saturday,” Cook said. “We’d practiced running hills during the week to prepare, but it still doesn’t do justice to the actual course itself and I’m proud of our guys for finishing strong in what will be our hardest race of the year.”
From Forestburg, Justynne Roller represented her school individually. Roller finished 64th with a time of 16:05.
While disappointed with her placement in the strong field, her father and Coach Greg Roller informed her she cut two minutes from her previous race.
Saint Jo is next scheduled to run on Sept. 17 at Ponder. Forestburg is next scheduled to race on Sept. 22 at Alvord.
