Prairie Valley beats Forestburg in play-in match

Published

on

Prairie Valley's Natalie Young goes up to spike the ball.

The Prairie Valley Lady Bulldogs won the play-in match on Friday night against Forestburg for the second seed.
The Lady Bulldogs won in straight sets against an older Lady Horns team that was heading for the playoffs for the first time in four years win or lose, but wanted to cap off their regular season strong.
Forestburg had most recently beaten Prairie Valley the previous week at home in a five-set thriller to tie the series at 1-1.
The Lady Bulldogs had won the first match 3-1 at home, but the home court advantage would be gone in this game, which was played at Saint Jo.
The first set saw both teams get mini runs as momentum switched back and forth.
Forestburg had some bigger and more athletic girls at the net that could get going if things were going good, especially if a server got hot.
Prairie Valley had only a few girls who could play at the net and relied on ball control and savvy despite the relative youth of the team.
With the score tied at 15-15, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run to open up a 20-15 lead heading into the homestretch. The Lady Horns were not able to make up the different as Prairie Valley won the set 25-20.
The second set saw the Lady Bulldogs take control earlier, up 10-5 and later 18-12. Forestburg could not get things turned around into one of its serving runs as Prairie Valley won the set 25-18 and was up 2-0.
The third set saw the Lady Horns catch fire. With the score tied at 5-5, Forestburg went on a 12-2 run to go up by 10 points 17-7 and looked like it was going to take the set easily.
The Lady Bulldogs battled back throughout the rest of the set, slowly catching up and only tying the score near the end at 24-24.
From there, Prairie Valley had all of the momentum and was able to get the final two points to steal the third set 26-24 and earn the win.
