Bowie boys close out first round of district with loss at Iowa Park
The Bowie Jackrabbits wrapped up the first round of district play with a tough loss at Iowa Park on Friday night.
The Hawks won 54-39, pulling away in the second half after tight play for two quarters.
The Jackrabbits came into the game with a 2-3 district record. After starting district on a string of close losses against Jacksboro, City View and Holliday by a combined eight points, Bowie came into the game on a two-game winning streak after beating Vernon and Henrietta.
The Jackrabbits started the game well even if the game was low-scoring. Bowie led 10-8 after the first quarter and 19-18 at halftime. The Jackrabbits were having trouble getting easy shots against Iowa Park’s zone defense and could not make the Hawks pay enough when getting open 3-point shots.
Iowa Park seemed to be hunting 3-pointers against Bowie’s zone defense and only made two in the first half.
The team made two in the third quarter which opened up all of the Hawk’s offensive execution in a flurry of scoring to end the quarter. The home crowd and team seemed to grow more bombastic as Iowa Park opened up a double-digit lead.
The Jackrabbits struggled in the third quarter, scoring only five points as they trailed 36-24 heading into the final period.
The Hawks offense did not slow down in the fourth quarter, making three 3-pointers and seeming one step ahead of Bowie’s defensive rotation.
The Jackrabbits got desperate and had a late scoring surge as they knocked in three 3-pointers as well, but it was too little too late for Bowie to come back.
Iowa Park won comfortably 54-39.
