Four area girls competed at the state powerlifting meet last week on March 12-13 in Edinburg.
Three of the four lifters were able to complete all three of their lifts to earn spots, though none finished in the top five in their weight class to earn a medal.
From Nocona, Kaitlyn Tiffner and Savannah Wade both lifted. For Tiffner, it was her second trip to the state meet, after making it there two years ago her freshman year competing in the 97 pound weight class.
Two years later, she was competing in the 105 pound weight class where she lifted 515 total pounds. She squatted 200 pounds, bench pressed 105 and dead lifted 210 pounds. It was five pounds off her personal best and as she finished 11th overall.
It was Wade’s first time competing at the state meet. She lifted in the 123 pound weight class. She lifted a total of 680 total pounds which placed her in 10th place.
It was not her best day as she lifted more on each lift during the season. She squatted 270 pounds, bench pressed 140 and dead lifted 270 pounds.
From Bellevue, Brylie Hager was her school’s first lifter to make it to state since this year was the first in program history. Hager also competed in the 105 pound weight class. She finished one spot behind Tiffner in 12th place.
For Hager, her 485 total pounds equaled her highest total of the season, though she still set some new personal records. Her 210 pounds on squat and 190 pounds on dead lift were both her highest of the season, though her 85 pound bench press was under her season high.
Unfortunately for Bowie’s lifter, Jeileigh Schaffer, she was not able to complete all three of her lifts, or bombed out. Competing in the 242 pounds weight class, Schaffer completed her first lift, squatting 280 pounds which was only 10 pounds less than her personal record this season.
Unfortunately for Schaffer, she missed her three attempts on bench press and her competition was done.
