HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Terry ready to shine on

Broc Terry will represent Bellevue High School one last time on July 18 in the Texas Six-Man Coaches Association all-star boys’ basketball game.
The game is set for 2 p.m. at Midwestern State University’s D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
“We’re very excited,” Bellevue head coach Colby Broussard said. “There’s a lot of talent on the team. It’s always big for a small school of our caliber to send someone.”
Terry is the second player to represent Bellevue in the game in as many years. Brandt Cassetty played for the East in the 2014 game, won rather handily by the West 95-68.
Cassetty scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and dished off four assists, and Terry aims to replicate that kind of performance.
“It means a lot to me,” Terry said. “I’ve spent a lot of time playing basketball. I’ve worked so hard to be noticed in the first place, so it’s nice to be selected.
Broussard said there are many reasons why Terry was chosen to play in the game.
“Broc is such a well-rounded player,” the coach commented. “He went from newcomer of the year in the district, to district defensive most valuable player to district offensive player of the year and then MVP. He can play a lot of different positions and do different things well.”
Terry was the District 1A-21 MVP during the 2014-15 season, in which the Eagles put together a 26-9 record. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
