Avery Tate advanced to the Conference 4A regional tennis tournament during her senior season at Burleson High School in 2011.
Tate teamed up with Jack Rebrodich in advancing to the third round, before bowing out of the event.
On July 20, the Bowie Independent School District board hired Tate as the new head boys’ and girls’ tennis coach.
Tate also will be teaching seventh-grade science at Bowie Junior High School, plus coaching junior high school volleyball and girls’ basketball.
“I’m excited,” Tate said. “I will be taking on teaching seventh grade and coaching tennis. I know it’s going to be a lot, but I am ready for this opportunity.”
Tate recently graduated from Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls with a bachelor’s degree in science.
At Midwestern State, she played intramural tennis and also helped coach in a recreational tennis league in her hometown. She also was in an educational honor society at MSU.
Tate replaces David Hall, who resigned in May to focus on his increasing duties with Sunset Church of Christ, where he serves as elder.
Tate said she enjoys tennis, and she hopes to attract more players to the sport. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.
