Bowie High School head football coach and athletic director Dylan Stark reported 63 players out for the 2015 season.
“I think we’re pretty even across the board,” Stark said. “Every group is represented well. It (practice) went fine. The guys had a lot of excitement.”
Monday marked the first day for practices across Montague County as football players produced plenty of sweat under humid conditions.
In Bowie, the senior group of 13 led the team in various offensive and defensive periods. Stark said the Jackrabbits worked on conditioning during pursuit drills.
Stark said one of the changes this year on offense will be using different formations, and that requires teaching – which was one of the components of Monday’s practice session.
Some players worked on special teams while the freshmen group did weight training.
Glen Dunnam is the only newcomer to the coaching staff.
Meanwhile, in Nocona, head coach Brad Keck reported 45 players out for football with three new coaches – including offensive coordinator Bryce Reed and former Bowie quarterbacks Tyler Price and Zac Dunnam. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.
