Having guards with versatility is one of the hallmarks of Bowie girls’ basketball coach Colby Davis-Pastusek’s playing system.
That’s what sold Southeastern Oklahoma State University coach Darin Grover on Courtney Brady, and the same could be said for Fort Lewis State coach Jason Flores on River Romine.
Brady signed with Southeastern Oklahoma, a school that plays in the Great American Conference, and Romine with Fort Lewis of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Both are NCAA Division II member schools.
“We feel fortunate to have signed a player the caliber of Courtney,” Grover said. “We watched her play throughout the summer, and she was the kind of player we targeted. She can dribble, pass and shoot with the best of them. I think she’s one of the best guards in north Texas.”
Flores gave equal kudos to Romine.
“I thought she had the skill set we were looking for,” the coach commented. “She’s a combination guard. We like to push the tempo, and I like her court-sense. I think she will be able to help us stretch defenses, and she’s a hard worker.”
Brady isn’t the first Bowie player to sign with Southeastern Oklahoma, located in Durant. Kaylé Reaves played there for four seasons, and served as a graduate assistant under Grover.
Fort Lewis is located in Durango, Colo., and the team mascot is the Skyhawks. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.
