For the first time since the 2012 season, both Bowie High School’s boys’ and girls’ powerlifting teams won titles at the same meet.
Kylie Robinson was named outstanding lightweight lifter on the girls’ side, and Cristian Martinez earned outstanding lightweight lifter for the boys – both accomplishing the feat for the second straight year.
“We’ve made progress, and we had some girls up their totals,” Bowie powerlifting head coach Quentin Berend said.
Martinez established new meet records in the squat at 420 pounds, bench press at 245 ponds and overall total (1,080 pounds).
At 181 pounds, Mylena Escudero increased her squat by 25 pounds, and Montana Holbach did the same at 148. As a result, both Escudero and Holbach won their respective weight divisions. Read more in the Feb. 3 Bowie News.
