HIGH SCHOOL FISHING: Stained water, wind doom Bowie

The Bowie High School fishing team had its share of problems during Saturday’s tournament at Lake Ray Roberts in Sanger.
A cold front moved across north Texas overnight on Friday, making conditions difficult – even for the most experienced angler.
“The cold front locked the fish,” Bowie team coordinator Trent Gillaspia said. “The wind was blowing 20-25 miles per hour, and that was brutal.”
When the team arrived for boat check, the air temperature was 35 degrees. Only during the afternoon, was the temperature somewhat “bearable.”
The cold weather affects the fish as much as the humans. When the weather is cold, the fish don’t bite as much.
In addition, recent rains stained the water, which only helped them stay undercover better. Read more in the March 23 Bowie News.
