STORM CENTER: A ‘Roo’ and a ‘Cru’

Published

The Bowie High School football team made history during the 2015 season as the Jackrabbits recorded their first playoff win since the early 1980s.
The team added to that history this past week as Chase Hall and Tilghman Parr signed on the line to continue their football careers on the collegiate level.
That makes six Bowie players who’ll compete on the gridiron next season.
Yes, you read that right, six.
Hall signed with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, with its pristine campus located in Belton. Parr inked with Austin College in Sherman, roughly a 90-minute drive away from Bowie.
“I’m very excited,” said Bowie head coach Dylan Stark. “All of these kids are smart kids, and they are all hard workers. I can’t wait to keep up with all of them.”
You may need a road map.
At least Kevin Stallcup and Carter Shackelford made it somewhat easy since both will be playing in Abilene – but different schools with Abilene Christian and Hardin-Simmons, respectively.
Jared Roberts decided to go all the way to west Texas, and he’ll vie for a spot on the offensive line at Wayland Baptist in Plainview.
Josh Monkres is the only Jackrabbit who decided on an out-of-state location, choosing Kansas Wesleyan in Salina. Two Montague County athletes call that place home next year, with Saint Jo’s Karla Fernandez playing women’s basketball at Brown Mackie.
Hall will enter a familiar situation because he knows the wide receivers coach at UMHB. Read more in the April 2 Bowie News.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.

Hattie Snow got the fastest time in the flags event and Lany Shupak got the fastest goat time. Riggin Bishop got named the top cowboy in the division.
In the eight-and-under division, Whitley Goins won the top cowgirl and Trell Carpenter won top cowboy. Goins got the fastest times in barrel racing, flags and mystery event. Carpenter got the fastest time in poles and goats.
In the 9-12 age division, Sage Keck won the top cowgirl while Chisum Carpenter won the top cowboy. Keck got the fastest times in four of the five divisions. Only Layna Taylor getting the fastest goat time prevented her from winning in a clean sweep.
