HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Bowie falls to Boyd

The Boyd High School softball field is, perhaps, one of the toughest diamonds for opponents to mine for victory.
Look at the facility, with dimensions shorter than regulation. The outfield has some rough patches with uneven ground. Base runners kicked up enough dust to make furniture polish happy.
“It’s hard for hitters not think they are going to pad their stats there,” Bowie head coach Brant Farris said.
It turns hitting into fool’s gold. Rather than staying on top of the ball to produce line drives, hitters seemingly put the ball in the air, and beg for it to clear the fence.
Boyd practices there every day, so the Lady Jackets are used to the conditions.
In the end, Boyd defeated Bowie 15-5 in a game shortened to five innings on account of the mercy rule.
Making the loss even more tough to stomach, Boyd tied Bowie for the District 3A-9 lead as both the Lady Jackets and Lady Rabbits are 7-2. Read more, and see complete box scores and district standings, in the April 9 Bowie News.
