Bowie Council still trying to trim budget

The Bowie City Council continues efforts to pare down the city budget to eliminate a revenue deficit exploring the possible elimination of staff positions and programs.

Council members met for another workshop Tuesday night reviewing nearly $300,000 in reductions from the previous workshop. City officials wanted to see how the latest electric billing would affect revenue projections looking into the new year before making any further adjustments.

Finance Director Renee Lawson said the revenues were up slightly and billings were about the same as the same time last year. From January to early summer utility revenues were lower than normal and there were concerns about revenues projections for the new budget.

Lawson told the county they are coming in better which prompted her to change the projections for the rest of this budget year.

Brief agenda awaits city council

Members of the Bowie City Council will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. on May 13 in council chambers.
The meeting opens with a proclamation for Emergency Medical Services Week.
City Manager Bert Cunningham will report on recent rainfall problems, Smythe Street sidewalk project and the substation work.
There is only one item of new business an ordinance related to speed limits on specific streets. Public comments and approval of minutes wrap up the agenda.

Amon Carter Water Supply Corporation board sets meeting

The board of directors of the Amon Carter Lake Water Supply Corporation will meet at 6 p.m. at Carter Lake Baptist Church 4759 FM 1125.
Agenda items include an engineer’s presentation and resolution workshop with Daniel Deweber and Prairie Branch Properties.
