The Buckle Up for Lane’s Sake Tournament was not the only volleyball action happening in Montague County on Saturday as Gold-Burg was busy hosting its own tournament.
Prairie Valley placed third in the event, with Gold-Burg falling last in what turned out to be a very competitive round-robin tournament.
“The teams were even and very competitive,” said Gold-Burg Head Coach Cheryl Cromleigh. “Anybody could have won. A lot of the coaches and people that came bragged on the tournament. We received a lot of compliments.”
The Lady Bears scores were close in their first two matches of the competition, falling to Valley View in three games of 23-25, 25-19 and 12-15.
Gold-Burg’s match against Prairie Valley resulted in scores even closer than the first. The Lady Bears stayed with the Lady Bulldogs through three games but ultimately were defeated 22-25, 26-24 and 16-18.
Alvord swept Gold-Burg in the last game of the day, defeating the host team 17-25, 9-25.
Libero Christina Arevalo was named to the all-tournament team, guiding her team with 18 digs, seven saves and two kills during the weekend games. Read more in the Sept. 7 Bowie News.
