Two county lawmen indicted; suspended from duty
Two officers serving in separate Montague County law enforcement agencies were indicted by the grand jury during a special Wednesday session of the panel.
One officer faces allegations stemming from his job as a county sheriff’s deputy, while one police officer faces charges related to allegations in his personal life.
Floyd Lee Phariss, 47, Sunset, faces a charge of official oppression, a class A misdemeanor.
The indictment alleges that on May 15 Deputy Phariss, while acting in his capacity as a deputy, intentionally caused bodily injury to Daniel Lee Harris by impeding his normal breath or circulation by applying pressure to the throat or neck. At the time, Harris was reportedly in custody and restrained by handcuffs,
Brian Keating, a patrol officer with the Bowie Police Department, was indicted on a charge of injury to a child with the intention of bodily injury, a third degree felony.

Wreck occurs as afternoon storm kicks off
Bowie emergency responders went to State Highway 59 and Mac’s Grocery Road after 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. It did not appear that anyone was transported by ambulance, but no details were available this afternoon. (News photo by Barbara Green)

Tornado warning issued
Montague County under a tornado warning.
Sirens went off in the City of Bowie shortly before 3 p.m. A tornado warning continues in the area of Lake Amon Carter, Fruitland and Sunset, be in your safe spot. A funnel was reportedly wrapped in the rain.

Early voting for May 2 Nocona General board election ends April 28
Early voting for the Nocona General Hospital District Board of Directors saw 285 voters cast their ballot during the first week of early voting.
Ballots may be cast early through April 28. Election day is May 2, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All voting is in the Nocona City County room at 102 Clay Street.
Candidates include two incumbents, Charles May and Ron Brown. De Brown, who had filed for re-election, later withdrew. Steve Bates and Shawn Patton are the other candidates. Three seats are open on the board.
