Former Bowie High School pitcher Brandon Workman and the Boston Red Sox have avoided salary arbitration.
Workman on Dec. 15 agreed to a one-year contract worth $635,000.
This past season, Workman, now 28, was on the disabled list as he continued rehabilitation stemming from Tommy John surgery in 2015.
During 2016, he went 0-2 with a 7.65 earned-run average in 10 appearances at both Single-A Lowell (Mass.) and Double-A Portland (Maine).
The deal represents a raise for Workman, who made $539,000 during the 2016 season.
He has not pitched in the major leagues since the 2014 season when the Red Sox used Workman as both a starter and reliever. Read more in the Dec. 28 Bowie News.
