YOUTH SPORTS: Nocona wins pair of Little Dribblers’ titles
The Nocona Little Dribblers program had another fine showing in the season-ending Continental National championships at Mt. Pleasant last week.
Nocona earned two championships and finished third overall in two other divisions at the event, which featured 140 games in four days.
Overall, Nocona won the Senior Girls and Junior Girls divisions.
Kylie Rose knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer to lift Nocona in the Senior Girls championship with a 45-43 overtime victory against Snook.
It was Rose’s only basket of the game; but, it was the one that mattered most.
“It was the game of the tournament, and I saw a lot of games,” said Little Dribblers tournament director Keith Strickland. “They (Nocona) was down one, but won by two.”
In a related note, Senior Girl Averee Kleinhans established a new tournament record with 136 points in five games.
The previous record was set in 1990, but that was 98 points over the course of seven games. Read more in the April 26 Bowie News.
