City of Bowie getting an ISO upgrade going from 3 to 2

Following a March inspection of its fire protection resources, the City of Bowie is expected to drop by one class in its rating, bringing a possible 8.5 percent decrease in property insurance costs to its residents.
In this instance, moving down in a rating is a good thing. City officials received a letter from the Insurance Service Office on July 1 reviewing survey results and the preliminary analysis of the fire insurance classification. That information has been sent to the state fire marshal’s office, where the final rating will be approved and an effective date named.
Fire Chief Doug Page said normally the ratings come out quarterly; so he anticipates it would be Oct. 1 when the new public protection class rating is effective.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
