Lagging minerals pull down 2017 property values

Certified property values for 2017 are down in nine of the 14 taxing entities appraised by the Montague County Tax Appraisal District.
The values were released Thursday by the Montague County Tax Appraisal District Chief Appraiser Kim Haralson said the lack of activity in oil and gas continues to drag down values.
These declines in value are expected to have a significant impact on estimated tax revenue for all the entities, including Montague Count,y which lost more than $15 million in values.
For the second year in a row, energy values had an impact, but not quite as large. In 2016, overall county property figures fell by 46.84 percent. This year the overall values fell by .79 percent.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
