American Airlines Center backdrop for Bowie/Krum match up

Published

on

The Bowie boys had a big game to follow their opening game of the season as they played at American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Mavericks, against their former coach and his new team from Krum on Nov. 21.
Doug Boxell, the Jackrabbits coach the previous five years, brought in the 25th ranked team in 4A to challenge his old team and came away with a low scoring 42-39 win in overtime.
Both teams early on had a major adjustment to make. The three-point line was measured out to the NBA distance or a good two to three feet more than what either team was used too.
With that knowledge in mind and with Krum being undersized, it made them play much tighter in the paint since the three-point threat was going to be an adventure.
It was the Bobcats who jumped out to a lead in the first quarter 10-6. The second quarter was more competitive, but Bowie could not close the margin as they trailed 23-18 at halftime.
The third quarter was similar to the first quarter as both teams struggled to score, but Krum was able to extend its lead slightly to 32-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Jackrabbits played their best stretch during this time as they closed the quarter on a 12-4 run to tie the game up 36-36 at the end of regulation.
Unfortunately for Bowie, their two leading scorers Daniel Mosley and Logan Lawhorn both fouled out down the stretch. The Bobcats were able to do just enough to eek out the 42-39 win in overtime.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
