Court plans for demolition debris removal

Montague County Commissioners continue to move forward with plans to abate the unsafe structure at State Highway 59 and Franklin Street selecting a place to dispose of the building material once it is taken down during Monday’s meeting.
The agenda item was to enter the Eddie Fenoglio property on Veretto Road to dispose of debris upon and/or contingent to the abatement of the structure.
Back in December the county sent certified letters to the owner of the property it was going to initiate the abatement of a nuisance property giving Mark Chancellor 30 days to respond.
The owner has not responded, and two weeks ago the court published in The Bowie News and Nocona News notices of intent to remove the unsafe building, again providing a 30 days window. At the end of that time period the owner can be issued tickets for a fine.
The old Carminati Grocery Store was damaged on Aug. 19 when a pickup truck driven by Jason Baraquin, 46, Oregon, ran into the building catching fire killing the driver. The building sustained significant damage with the other stating several weeks later it could not be saved.
