Bowie track teams compete at Boyd

Published

on

The Bowie track and field teams competed in their first complete meet on March 7 at Boyd.
With seven schools competing, the Lady Rabbits ran away with the first place while the Jackrabbits came four points short of first place Boyd, coming in second.
The Bowie girls got big points from its relay teams as the Lady Rabbits won the 4×100 and 4×200 relay while finishing third in the 4×400 relay at the end.
The top individual performer was Abby Zamzow who won the 100-meter hurdles, the 400 meter dash, the long jump and triple jump. Zamzow also was a leg on the 4×100 team.
Other top three finishers for the girls included Jayci Logan winning the 200 meter dash, Hope Howard finishing second in the shot put, Brysen Richey finishing second in the 100-meter dash, Kylee Brightwell finishing second in the 400 meter dash, Aslyn Davis finishing third in the 800 meter dash and Landra Parr finishing third in the long jump.
For the boys, some good performances by multiple athletes pulling their weight in several events almost led to them a first place finish.
Athletes finished in the top three included Daniel Mosley winning both the shot put and discus events.
Logan Lawhorn won the high jump, finished second in the long jump, second in the 400 meters and third in the triple jump.
Alex Shelton finished second in the 800 meters and third in the 1600 meters. Joey Crawford finished second in the pole vault and third in the 300-meter hurdles.
A.J. Craddock finished second in the 110-meter hurdles. Dalton Davis finished second in the high jump.
While in this meet the boys did have enough athletes to compete in some of the extremely important relays unlike their first meet, they are still lacking enough athletes to fill out all three relays.
With three meets to go before the district meet on April 1 at City View, both teams hope to persuade more athletes to compete in events they are lacking participants.
While both teams have athletes competing in multiple events, an athlete can compete in only five events max, which is pushing it for most.
Every point will matter if both teams want to have a chance at repeating as district champs.
Bowie is next scheduled to compete on March 16 at the PK Relays in Graham High School.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
