The host Lady Indians almost won it all, losing the championship game of the gold bracket to one of the top ranked teams in the state in 3A Boyd.
In pool play on Thursday, Nocona started out the tournament on a tough note. Sanger gave the Lady Indians issues, winning a close second set 27-25 to force a third set Nocona was able to pull out 25-21.
After the opening match the Lady Indians won their next three matches on the day against Electra, Burkburnett and Callisburg all in straight sets.
With no losses in pool play, Nocona qualified for the gold bracket on Saturday with a top seed. Still it would not be easy.
The Lady Indians faced off against Iowa Park. The Lady Hawks won the first set 25-22 to give Nocona a pause. The Lady Indians were able to regroup and win the next two sets and keeping Iowa Park out of the 20s with scores 25-18 and 25-16.
The next match against Melissa was not any easier. After winning the first set easily 25-17, the Lady Cardinals won the second set 25-22 to force a third set. It could have gone either way, but Nocona won the set by the narrowest of margins 25-23 to make it to the championship game.
Boyd came into the championship match without having lost a set all tournament. The Lady Indians gave it their best shot and made the Lady Yellowjackets earn it in set one with a 25-21 win. The second set got away from Nocona as Boyd won 25-8 to win the tournament title.
