Bowie Police offer tips for a safe holiday season

Published

on

Thanksgiving and Christmas are fast approaching, and with cooler temperatures and hectic times, family gatherings and shopping, everyone can become wrapped up in the moment and forget that some people are watching and waiting for us to drop our guard.
Assistant Bowie Police Chief Kent Stagg says vehicle burglary is simply a crime of opportunity. Most thefts occur when valuables are left unattended in an unsecured or unlocked vehicle. Most often they occur at night while the vehicle is parked outside of the victim’s residence. Virtually any property is apt to be stolen by anyone who can see it lying in the car when walking by.
Here are some precautions to take to reduce these crimes:
• Close your car’s windows and lock the doors.
• Take your valuables with you when you leave your car unattended for extended periods of time.
• When you’re shopping, and you must make multiple trips to secure your purchases in your car, lock them out of sight in the trunk or hatchback or under a blanket behind the front seats. Read more tips in the full story in the weekend Bowie News.
