Jackrabbits fall to Henrietta

Published

The Bowie Jackrabbits played in their final home game of the season on Valentine’s Day against Henrietta.
The Bearcats pulled away in the fourth quarter to blow open a competitive game winning 59-39.
The Jackrabbits started the game with great energy. Bowie was pushing the ball every chance it got and at times was looking to shoot early in transition.
The Jackrabbits were up 9-2 midway through the quarter. Henrietta struggled to score as it tried to drive to the rim. Bowie held up well in its zone defense, forcing several turnovers and contesting shots.
The Jackrabbits led 14-5 and looked to be in control of the game heading into the second quarter.
Henrietta started to pick things up offensively as Baron Brown started to get hot from long range. The Bearcat made four 3-pointers and scored 14 points in the quarter to get Henrietta back into the game.
The Bearcats took a 21-18 lead with two minutes left to play. Bowie was able to answer back as Braden Armstrong and Riley Harris nailed back-to-back 3-pointers.
The Jackrabbits retook the lead 25-23 heading into the locker room, but they knew they had a game on their hands now.
The third quarter saw Henrietta take the lead again with back-to-back 3-pointers giving the team a 33-27 lead midway through the quarter. Bowie turned to Trevor Vann, who scored seven points in the quarter to keep pace, but the Bearcats still had the lead 39-36 heading into the final quarter.
Things started to unravel in the fourth. Henrietta started to score on multiple possessions as contested jump shots and circus layups started to go in. This had a negative affect on the Jackrabbits who could not make a shot all quarter.
The lead continued to widen as points fueled the Bearcats energy and drained Bowie’s. Henrietta scored 18 straight points before some free throws prevented the Jackrabbits from getting shut out. The Bearcats won 59-39.
With one last game to play at district champion Childress on Monday, Horton hopes his team can give it all they have knowing it will be the last game the team plays together.

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
