Action asked for on loan default for Saint Jo grocery

Since the middle of November, the City of Saint Jo has been without a grocery store.
Saint Jo residents – some 1,100 of them – are now driving to Muenster, Nocona or Bowie for groceries and that’s an inconvenience.
John Sickles, who owns an art gallery in the community, requested time during Wednesday’s city council meeting to discuss the city recouping money paid out in the form of a loan for the grocery store located on United States Highway 82.
The Saint Jo Economic Development Board (Type A) gave Mary Stewart, Saint Jo Grocery’s owner, a $15,000 loan to help with operations.
Now the store sits vacant because Stewart wasn’t able to meet rent obligations. Read the full story of this council meeting in the Saturday News.
