Burn ban lifted by commissioners, but caution is still advised

Montague County Commissioners lifted the ban on outdoor burning but urged residents to continue to take precautions to avoid sparking any sort of grass or wildfire.
The burn has been in place for the past two months as county firefighters have battled multiple grass fires including one large one, two weeks ago near Nocona Hills that threatened homes and caused evacuations.
County Judge Kevin Benton said he had talked with some of the local firefighters and they felt it could be lifted. Commissioner Mark Murphey, also a volunteer firefighter in Nocona, said there have been a few large fires during the last week or so, but they are not burning as fast as a few weeks back.
