Sheriff confirms officer killed during 911 call at his residence
At a 9 a.m. press conference, Montague County Sheriff Paul Cunningham confirmed his deputy Larry Hostetter was killed in an incident at his home shortly after midnight this morning.
A Nocona Police officer was responding to a 911 domestic disturbance call when the shooting occurred. Texas Rangers are investigating.
Nocona Police Chief Kent Holcomb and Sheriff Cunningham spoke at a press conference outside Nocona City Hall.
Holcomb said his officer responded to a 911 emergency call for a domestic disturbance on Jordan Drive shortly after midnight Sunday. During this call shots were fired and Larry Hostetter, 41, who resides at that home and also works as a sheriff’s deputy as killed during an officer-involved shooting. Hostetter resides at that home with his wife, Jennifer and three children. The deputy was pronounced dead at Nocona General Hospital at 1:03 a.m. Monday.
The Nocona officer was uninjured and the chief did not release his name.
Holcomb refused to elaborate on the details of the incident citing the “integrity of the investigation,” which is underway by the Texas Rangers.
Hostetter has worked for the county sheriff’s office since 2000. Cunningham said he was a “good officer,” and also worked as the training officer with the rookies coming into the department. Chief Holcomb would not say if there had been any other similar calls or reports to that residence.
Cunningham said it is uncertain when the investigation will be completed, but once done it will be presented to the district attorney for review. Hostetter’s body was sent to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.
