U.S. Hwy. 82 expansion in county nearing completion

Construction on the U.S. Highway 82 expansion in Montague County is nearing completion and eastbound traffic was switched Friday to the two newly built Eastbound lanes between Ringgold and Nocona.
The westbound traffic will remain on the current westbound lane. A paving crew will arrive in one to two days to finish the lanes on the westbound side.
The U.S. 82 expansion project from Ringgold to Nocona started in October of 2021. The road is being widened from a two-lane undivided highway to a four-lane divided highway with a large center median. The $48.5 million project is expected to be substantially complete by the first week of July.
Meanwhile, a contract for expanding the next portion of U.S. 82 was let last week. Work is expected to begin this fall. This will widen it from the Montague/Clay County line to Ringgold

Summer Olympics this week’s summer reading theme

Bowie Public Library’s Summer Reading program continues on July 16 with the Olympics.
It will be all about the upcoming Summer Olympics with outdoor games at the soccer field. Summer reading wraps up with the popular Creature Teacher on July 23 who brings lots of animals to the kids to see up close.
Any questions about summer reading can be directed to the library staff by calling 872-2681 or follow their Facebook page.
Summer reading is open to children ages 0-12. Keep a summer reading log and earn a book.

Space adventures coming to Nocona Library

Nocona Library’s Summer Reading program continues at 10 a.m. on July 17 at the Justin Building at 100 Clay Street.
The program will be space adventures and include a demonstration of a drone. Make plans to attend.
