HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: Nocona edged yet again

Nocona High School’s softball team is close – agonizingly close to earning its first District 3A-9 victory.
The Lady Indians were up 7-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth during Tuesday’s 3A-9 game at Henrietta.
But then the Lady Bearcats rallied for five runs to win 8-7.
Still, first-year Nocona head coach Jon Shaw isn’t discouraged.
“We still have 11 district games, and there’s plenty to play for,” Shaw said. “The last two games, it’s been something here, something there. In the sixth inning, we just couldn’t get out of it.”
Nocona has lost its last two district games by one run each.
The Indians (3-9 overall, 0-3 in 3A-9) played Boyd on Friday night in Henrietta as the district schedule continued.
Nocona built its lead in the fifth and sixth innings, but it wasn’t enough to counter Henrietta’s final scoring push. The Lady Indians committed two costly errors during the bottom of the sixth which sealed the team’s fate.
Shaw pointed to the fact Nocona left the bases loaded in the top of the sixth. Read more, and see the complete box score, in the weekend Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
