Lady Rabbits struggle in losses to Holliday and Vernon
The Bowie Lady Rabbits had a tough week with losses against Holliday and Vernon.
The Lady Rabbits to lost to the Lady Eagles 41-18 and at the Lady Lions 50-40.
Bowie came into the week hoping to snap a two-game losing streak and end the season on a good note with the playoffs still within reach.
The Lady Rabbits had lost a close game at Holliday the first two times the teams met. On Jan. 28, it was not as close of a game.
Bowie tried to not allow the Lady Eagles to get the ball inside to their big posts, but Holliday still found a little success and took the early lead because the Lady Rabbits struggled to score. The Lady Eagles led 8-3 after the first quarter.
Holliday found more success getting the ball inside despite Bowie’s best efforts and was able to play off of that as the Lady Eagles offense found some rhythm and made two 3-pointers. The Lady Rabbits offense continued to struggle against Holliday’s zone defense.
Bowie trailed 21-9 heading into halftime.
The Lady Rabbits had dealt with Holliday’s halfcourt pressure well all game, but as the game went along and Bowie got more desperate, turnovers started to happen. The Lady Eagles lead continued to grow as the game went on.
Holliday won 41-18.
Laney Segura led the team with six points while Parker Riddle was second with five points. Laney Enlow grabbed a team high six rebounds.
The Lady Rabbits knew they did not play well against Holliday, but knew they could hang with any team in the district on any given night.
Bowie tried to keep that in mind as it traveled to Vernon on Friday night.
The first time the teams played saw the Lady Rabbits lost 48-40.
The first half was a stalemate as the teams were tied at 14-14 after the first quarter and 22-22 at halftime.
The third quarter saw the Lady Lions defense force a bunch of turnovers which allowed them to get the lead 35-28.
Despite Bowie scoring better in the fourth quarter, the Lady Rabbits could not get enough stops on defense to make up the lead.
Vernon won 50-40.
Segura led the team with nine points while Enlow was second with eight points. Hanna Bell grabbed a team high six rebounds and had three assists to go with seven points.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
