Bowie goes 3-0 at Walker Stallcup tourney
The Bowie Jackrabbits went 3-0 at their hosted Walker Stallcup Tournament last week.
The Jackrabbits were able to defeat Burkburnett, Childress and Pampa as they gear up for the start of district next week.
Bowie first played the Bulldogs on March 6. Burkburnett was up 2-1 heading into the fifth inning when the Jackrabbits scored four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead. Bowie added one more run in the sixth inning and held on to win 6-3.
Trae Seigler, Hayden and Hunter Rodriguez each drove in one run each to lead the team. Caden Belcher started on the mound and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out eight batters. Bowie committed two fielding errors in the game.
The Jackrabbits played their second game of the day against Pampa. It was a low-scoring game, with runs coming few and far between.
Bowie took the lead in the third inning with two runs. The Jackrabbits were able to nurse than lead until the sixth inning when the Harvesters tied the game up with two runs.
The Jackrabbits were able to pull ahead in the final inning as Rayder Mann scored on a wild pitch as Bowie won 3-2.
Mann led the team with two RBIs and two hits. Seigler got the start of the mound and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out one batter and walking four in five innings of work. The defense committed only one fielding error.
The Jackrabbits played their third and final game of the tournament on Friday against Childress. Bowie did not start the game well, allowing four runs in the first inning before it had even taken an at-bat.
The Jackrabbits scored three runs during the first two innings to cut the lead down before taking the lead in the fourth inning with five runs scored. Bowie added three more runs in the fifth inning before the game was called, winning with the score 11-4.
Boton Farris and Austin Cheney led the team with two RBIs each, with Farris hitting a home run in the game. The team took advantage of the seven fielding errors the Bobcats committed on defense.
On the mound, Mann pitched and allowed four runs (two earned) on two hits while striking out six batters.
The Bowie defense committed one fielding error in the game.
The Jackrabbits then hosted Petrolia on Monday in a regular season game. The Pirates scored four runs in the first two innings to take the early lead.
Bowie scored two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning, but could not tie or pull ahead in the final two innings. Petrolia won 4-3.
Farris and the Rodriguez brothers all drove in one run each to lead the team. Bowie finished with five hits and drew five walks.
Hunter Rodriguez pitched 3.1 innings and allowed one earned run while striking out four and walking five batters.
Edmond De Leon pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed no runs on two hits while striking out six batters. Bowie’s defense committed one fielding error.

Norwood new Bowie boys hoop coach
Landry Norwood has agreed to become the new Head Boys Basketball Coach for Bowie High.
Norwood grew up in Paradise, playing a number of sports for the Panthers during his high school career. With a number of family members still in the area and the position coming open, Norwood applied and was hired.
“I know the tradition up here,” Norwood said. “I was glad (Athletic Director and Head Football) Coach Tyler Price felt he could put his trust in me.”
Bowie’s varsity went 2-10 last year, both wins coming against Vernon. Norwood spent five years as an assistant in Lipan before spending the next four years at Llano, three years as head coach. He said his last two years in Llano were rough after graduation of nine seniors his first year and a 26-7 squad.

Nocona softball falls to Archer City
Nocona came into game two of its Class 2A Division I bi-district series with Archer City looking to rebound from a 17-0 loss in game one.
The Lady Indians took a quick lead but the Lady ‘Cats had too much in the tank and knocked Nocona out of the playoffs courtesy of a 13-3, five-inning victory winning the best of three series, 2-0.
Kylea Wallace reached base on a second baseman’s error. With one out, M’leigha Franklin took a pitch over the wall in left field for a home run, igniting the Lady Indian crowd with a 2-0 lead.
Archer City prevented further damage by retiring the next two hitters. The Lady ‘Cats struck in the bottom of the inning for seven runs.

Lady Rabbits win bi-district
Culture. It’s a beautiful word.
Bowie Softball Coach Griffin Fields has been trying to install a positive, winning culture since taking over the job. For the first time since 2019, the Lady Rabbits qualified for the postseason, facing District 8 top seed Early in the bi-district round.
After beating the Lady ‘Horns 9-8 in game one of the best-of-three series April 23, Early came back and evened the series less than 24 hours later, 15-0. The Lady Rabbits used the aforementioned culture and got out to a quick lead in game three.
Bowie was then forced to come from behind for the second straight night. Kinley Baker, who had the game winning RBI in game one, came through again in game three and broke a 6-all tie with a single to lift the Lady Rabbits to a 9-6 victory in the finale.
