Nocona honors a neighborhood hero
Last week’s meeting of the Nocona City Council opened with a special proclamation honoring one of its citizens for helping save the lives of her neighbors in a house fire.
Mayor Robert Fenoglio presented a proclamation to Brenda Murray for her heroic actions on Aug. 3 to rescue a disabled veteran in a house fire at 707 Baylor. The meeting saw firefighters and other community members on hand to recognize her efforts. City Secretary Revell Hardison said Murray’s neighbor’s home caught fire and knowing they were elderly and disabled she helped them get out of their house, and may have been what saved their lives.
The council also took final action on its 2025-26 budget and 2025 tax rate.
