STORM CENTER: Nocona given economic boost

Published

The sports editor was treated to an eye-opening experience on Wednesday evening as he watched opening ceremonies for Little Dribblers at Nocona High School.
The 2015 Little Dribblers Continental National Tournament is taking place at several venues throughout Nocona and Saint Jo through today.
And, as tournament director Lance Meekins said, the tournament wouldn’t be possible without the seemingly long list of corporate sponsors.
Teams descended upon Nocona from everywhere, places like Anderson-Shiro – whose high school participated in the Buckle Up Lane’s Sake volleyball tournament last fall – Frankston, Grapeland, La Poynor, Martin’s Mill and Normangee. The sports editor is proud of all the Nocona Little Dribblers players representing the city as well as all of Montague County in the tournament.
On Wednesday, five of six Nocona teams opened tournament play with victories. Now that’s a great start.
Three years ago at Nocona, the hometown Nocona played in the Continental Major Boys final falling to New Waverly. Read the rest of this column in the weekend Bowie News.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys

Published

on

New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.

“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”

McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.

McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.
