HIGH SCHOOL AWARDS: Gold-Burg’s Rainey, Gerlach ‘Iron Bears’

The Gold-Burg Independent School District had its year-end banquet on Thursday evening at Stoneburg.
The meal consisted of chicken, russet potatoes, salad and dessert.
For the first-time ever, the Iron Bear was awarded to the top male and female athlete at Gold-Burg.
Athletic director Jay Johnson instituted the honor, and gave a presentation on the new award.
Colt Rainey, who participated in football, basketball and track and field, was named the male Iron Bear of the year.
Chelsie Gerlach was tabbed as the female Iron Bear of the year. Gerlach played basketball and was on Gold-Burg’s track and field team as a throwing specialist.
Football player Josh Belt was recognized as an honorable mention Division II District 1A-12 all-district honorable mention selection.
Basketball players Anthony Rios and Rayge Gardner were recognized as District 1A-21 honorable mention choices.
Gold-Burg finished the season with a 2-8 record, but won its Homecoming game over Founders Classical Academy. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.
