MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Workman slowly begins rehab

Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Brandon Workman has slowly begun rehabilitation from a strained elbow injury.
Boston Globe sportswriter Pete Abraham reported Workman started playing catch on Wednesday.
Workman, a 2007 Bowie High School graduate, told Abraham he feels a difference since receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his elbow on April 15 during a visit to Dr. James Andrews.
Elbow strain caused Workman to land on the disabled list in mid-April. He logged 148-1/3 innings last year for both the Boston Red Sox and Pawtucket PawSox.
The Red Sox have not updated Workman’s status for returning to the bullpen, but it most likely won’t be anytime soon.
However, Boston manager John Farrell updated reporters on Workman’s condition.
“It was a four-week rest before he was to initiate a throwing program,” Farrell told MassLive.com’s Christopher Smith. “So we won’t know anything until he gets a couple of weeks into the program.
Farrell reported Workman will not receive another MRI on the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow.
Surgery still remains an option, Farrell said.
