Former Bowie High School four-sport athlete Matt Hill was inducted into the Bowie Hall of Honor during the 2015 All Sports Banquet at the Bowie Community Room on Monday.
“I was both shocked and humbled,” Hill said during a telephone interview with The Bowie News on Wednesday.
Bowie athletic director Dylan Stark and principal Kelly Shackelford squired Hill around the new high school on Monday. It was Hill’s first time in the new building.
Hill’s family enjoyed his induction ceremonies, with his wife, Brenda, and mother Edna Merle Hill. Matt still has several family members living here in Montague County. Hill’s older brother, Shannon, also came up for the event.
“I enjoyed seeing old friends I hadn’t seen in a while,” Hill said. “Scott Weber introduced me. To be honored is so humbling, to be in that membership.”
These days, Hill serves as the assistant principal at Guyer High School in Denton.
Hill played varsity basketball and tennis for two seasons and varsity football and baseball for three years. He was a standout quarterback and cornerback for the Jackrabbits, and served as captain his junior and senior campaigns. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.
