Saint Jo City Council will have to appoint mayor

Published

on

The mayoral City of Saint Jo’s race remains without any candidates as the final day to file for the special election to fill out the one-year unexpired term came to an end on March 9.

City Secretary Sherri Davis said incumbent Councilman Brad Bugg had filed for the mayor’s race, but since he had already filed and the deadline had passed for the council race, the Texas Secretary of State election staff indicated he could not run since he was already a candidate for council.

Davis said Tuesday she was awaiting further direction from the secretary of state “because I am not sure what happens next.” The answer came a short time later as the state officials said the council could appoint to fill out the remaining one year on the term.
