Bass tourney kicks off 51st Annual Jim Bowie Days

In one week the 51st annual Jim Bowie Days Celebration comes to town with a week of rodeo activities and family fun June 19-24.
It has been four years since Jim Bowie Days opened with the traditional bass tournament. The Bowie Bass Club is coordinating the event that has check-in at 5 a.m.. on June 18 at Lake Amon G. Carter.
Registration will be at the Selma Park Boat Ramp with the fishing kick-off at 6 a.m.
One of the newer events starts off the week with 4D Barrel Racing on June 19 presented by the County Line Cowboy Church. Expos at 5:30 p.m. and race at 7:30.

The Youth Rodeo will be June 20-21 with speed events on Tuesday and roping on Wednesday. Mutton bustin’ starts the events each night at 6:30 p.m. There is no charge at the gate to cheer on our upcoming rodeo stars.
June 22 will be the first night of the United Professional Rodeo Association /Texas Cowboys Rodeo Association Sanctioned Rodeo starting at 7:30 p.m. Slack will follow the main performance.

The parade is planned for June 24, but the deadline to enter is June 20.

Letters to Santa due by Dec. 4

Hey kids, it’s time to get your letters ready for Santa Claus!
The Bowie News invites families to submit their letters to Santa for publication in the Dec. 21 edition. Forms are available on our Facebook page and at bowienewsonline.com.
Print out a form and drop it off in Santa’s mailbox at the News office, 200 Walnut Street or in one of the school Santa boxes across the county.
Deadline to send in a letter is Dec. 4. While this may seem early there are hundreds of letters to type and then they have to ship off to the North Pole for the Big Guy to read.

New mayor takes oath in Saint Jo

A new mayor and two returning aldermen took the oath of office on Nov. 13 for the Saint Jo City Council.
The three races were uncontested during the recent election. Kelly Williamson will take over as mayor, as Colton Thomas and Melissa McPherson continue in their places. Thomas was elected to be mayor pro tem.
Aldermen took care of numerous organizational tasks related to its economic development boards and the council. Former Mayor Shawn Anderson and Hennessey were removed from city-related accounts, with the new mayor and mayor pro tem and McPherson were added to the city accounts.
