Fishing season begins Sept. 30
The Bowie High School Bass Club will open its season on Sept. 30 at Lake Ray Roberts with five teams competing.
This year the club added one new team, with potential for one more, unfortunately they were unable to find a captain. Teams consist of two students and an adult captain.
Teams and captains are: Jeremy Stone and Kyler Ratliff, Captain Rusty Edwards; Lane Hopson and Hadley Morgan, Captain Scott Wolsey; Will Hamilton and
Blake Allen, both Gold-Burg students fishing for the club, Captain Weldon Duff; Ian Ashley and Hunter Pullen, Captain Ross Hodges; and the newest team, Christian Sanchez and Carson Morris, Captain Trace Morris.
This year Bowie’s team will be fishing in the north division opening on Lake Ray Roberts at the marina. Teams then travel to Lake Lewisville on Oct. 28; Lake Texoma on Dec. 2; Lake Ray Hubbard on Feb. 10; and Ray Roberts on March 10.
Regionals will be on Lake Lewisville on April 14 with the Texas High School Bass Association state championship May 19-20 on Lake Sam Rayburn.
Team Coordinator Toni Stone said everyone is excited to get the season going.
Jeremy Stone and Rusty Edwards went to Ray Roberts this past week for pre-fishing. Teams are allowed to prefish until the Friday before the tournament to become familiar with the lake.

McLennan to coach Saint Jo boys
New Saint Jo Boy’s Basketball Coach Terry McLennan said the school’s family atmosphere is what prompted him to join the Panther family.
“This is an opportunity to be an important program but also part of a great community,” McLennan said. “I’ve been looking to get back to a small town environment like the one I grew up in and played ball and this should do that.”
McLennan played basketball in Hubbard outside of Waco. McLennan comes to town after being the assistant girl’s basketball coach in Grand Prairie.
McLennan contends he’s a defensive style of coach but says his team will focus on intensity.

Botard new BHS girls BB coach
After some coaching time in East Texas, Bret Botard will be the new girl’s basketball coach at Bowie.
Botard said it’s a chance to work with Bowie Athletic Director Tyler Price once again. Price was Botard’s assistant when he coached at Nocona.
“I wanted to get back into the area,” Botard said. “It’s a good community.”
Botard graduated high school in 1995 from Del Valle High School, outside Austin, and went to Texas Tech. He started his coaching career in Lubbock followed by returning to his alma mater where he was an assistant for his high school coach.
