Bowie powerlifting teams compete well last week
The Bowie powerlifting teams competed last week with the boys traveling to Bridgeport on Saturday and coming up one point short of winning the whole meet, while the girls competed in a league meet in Paradise and dominated.
Despite competing in a field that featured half the schools from a bigger school division, the Jackrabbits finished one point behind Sanger.
Eleven lifters earned at least one point by finishing in the top five, with two winning their weight classes.
Raiden Brezina won the 114 pound weight class despite weighing in at 17 pounds below that max, lifting a total of 540 pounds. Dalton Davis won the 148 pound class by lifting a total of 990 pounds, 115 pounds more than second place.
Other lifters who earned medals included Ty Harris earning silver in the 165 class; Jacob Skinner and Victor Tran earning second and third in the 181 class; Tyson Herron earning second in the super heavy weight class; Bryan Arellano earning third in the 242 class; Roman Rivas earning third in the 132 class.
Coach Quentin Berend liked what he saw, but was disappointed the margin was so small.
“Guys lifted fantastic and there were PRs set all over the place,” Berend said. “A few big ones were A.J. Craddock hitting 300 pounds on bench, Joey Crawford hitting 450 pounds on deadlift, Jacob Skinner with 1,200 pound total moving him into first in the region and Bryan Arellano squatting 475 pounds, improving his PR by 75.”
The Lady Rabbits came away from the meet at Paradise with a dominating showing, with all 10 of their lifters earning medals.
Top finishers included Jessie Henry winning the 97 pound weight class, Sierra Skinner winning 105 pound class, Emma Skinner winning with 114 pound class, Kerstin Kindsfather winning the 148 pound class; Jenna Rogers winning the 165 pound class; Carrington Davis winning the 181 pound class; Chelsea Price winning the 220 pound class.
Other medalists included Harley Lowe earning second in the 220 pound class, Breanna Masingale earning third in the 148 pound class and Ashley Aguirre earning second in the 132 pound class.
