Early voting expects to top 2016 EV balloting total

Voters continued to make a steady trek to the early voting locations across the county as the second week of balloting for the Nov. 3 election got underway.
The first week of Montague County early voting through noon on Tuesday saw 4,183 people cast ballots, which is 29 percent of the county’s registered voters. During the 2016 presidential election there were 5,944 early voters in the county.
Early voting locations are set up at: Montague County Annex Community Room at Montague, H.J. Justin Community Room in Nocona, Saint Jo Civic Center and Bowie Bible Baptist.
Polls will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, Oct. 13-30. The Montague location will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 27.
Polling locations and sample ballots will be available at: co.montague.tx.us, click elections.
Along with the presidential election and many state races, there are elections for Bowie and Nocona City Council, Montague and Bowie Independent School Districts.
COVID-19 safety protocols are in effect at all the county locations.

Judges named to preside over DA Hall cases

Judges have been named for the two cases involving 97th District Attorney Casey Hall, including the indictment for theft and a petition for removal as DA.
On July 11, Judge David L. Evans, presiding judge for the Eighth Administration Region of Texas, assigned E. Lee Gabriel to handle the indictment case against Hall. The judge then named Bruce McFarling for the removal petition case.
The two-term DA Hall was indicted by the Montague County Grand Jury July 15 on a charge of theft of property $2,500 to $30,000, a state jail felony. The allegations stem from reported misappropriation of state grant funds.
