The fall surge of COVID-19 has struck Montague County throwing out the previous no mask exemption just three days in as active cases rose to more than 45 late last week.
Montague County Judge Kevin Benton on Saturday released a letter to the public stating due to a surge in positive tests the mask exemption announced on Oct. 14 was no longer valid.
In that statement Benton said he talked with Joel Massey, regional medical director for region 2-3, which oversees Montague County plus Dr. Delbert McCaig, county health authority on Friday and found the state was tracking 35 active COVID-19 cases in Montague County.
Massey added there was confirmation from medical staff of 10 to 15 positive cases that day, which would push the numbers higher along with others not yet reported.
Dr. Massey provided a chart that showed confirmed positive tests totaling 45 from Oct. 1 to Oct. 13.
