Springer visits Thursday; citizens candidate forum follows

Citizens are invited to take part in a pair of political forums Thursday in Bowie.
State Rep. Drew Springer (R-Muenster) will have a town hall at the Bowie Community Room from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Oct. 19. Springer will discuss results from the recent legislative sessions and take questions from his constituents.
From 6 to 8 p.m. Bowie citizens are invited to learn about the candidates running for city council. This meet and greet will be in the back room of The Brick in downtown Bowie on Oct. 19.
Each candidate will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and be available for questions. Gaylynn Burris, who is an uncontested candidate for Bowie mayor and a present council member, will be host.
The Bowie City Council has contested races in all three precincts. In the east precinct, Councilor Wayne Bell is challenged by Bill Miller. North Precinct Councilor Jim Graham faces Thomas Kent and Arlene Bishop. South Precinct Councilor Chuck Malone faces Machelle Mills and Amy Johns.

Bowie Council meeting cancelled

The regular meeting of the Bowie City Council for July 22 has been cancelled. City Manager Bert Cunningham and Mayor Gaylynn Burris will be attending the Texas Public Power Association conference.

City staff examines new generators for water plant

City of Bowie officials were on hand to inspect the emergency electrical generators that were delivered last week.
Mayor Gaylynn Burris and City Manager Bert Cunningham inspected one of three emergency electrical generators purchased as part of an ongoing Federal Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant. They also talked with Jay Evans, head of the city electric department, and Jerry Sutton, director of the water treatment plant about the next step for installation of the generators.
This grant provides funding for one 150 kW and two 250 kW generators for use at the water treatment plant.
